For hike 21 – I traveled north to Jenny Jump State Forest to check out Ghost Lake and the ridge summit views. I’ve never hiked in the park before, but it’s been on my list for quite some time so I was glad to finally get there. Continue reading

Hike 15: Ted Stiles Preserve at Baldpate Mountain
Despite the fact that I’ve been staring at the names of these last few hikes in my notebook for months, every outing feels like a new discovery. For hike 15 I returned to the Ted Stiles Preserve to hike Baldpate Mountain. Continue reading
Hike 14: Sourland Ecosystem Preserve
I’ve hiked the Sourland Mountain Preserve countless times over the last few years, but just recently discovered that there is more to the Sourlands than I ever realized. The Mountain Preserve is just one of several trail systems that this unique ecosystem of forest and wetland has to offer. For hike fourteen, I explored the Sourland Ecosystem Preserve trail system. Continue reading
Hike 12: Hacklebarney State Park | Riverside and Windy Ridge Trails
One of the goals I set for myself when I started the 52 Hike Challenge was to complete 52 unique hikes. I’ve been able to accomplish that task so far, but have had to change plans a few times based on my schedule or (as with hike 12) the weather. Continue reading
Hike 11: Point Mountain Ridge
The last time I hiked Point Mountain was July of 2014; I really enjoyed the hike and have wondered if the views from the ridge would be any better when the trees were barren and leafless. I decided to make my way back last weekend to hit the ridge before spring really set in. Continue reading
Hike 10: Ridge Trail South – Sourland Mountain Preserve
The last two months have been extremely busy, and I’ve sadly fallen a bit behind on my 52 Hike Challenge. I took advantage of a beautify day off of work to get in Hike 10 at the Sourland Mountain Preserve in Hillsborough, NJ. Continue reading
Hike 09: Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park
About five years ago I tweaked my sciatic nerve in my back while mountain biking. Every now and then I’ll turn a weird way and be out of commission for a few days. I’m usually very careful while hiking and typically re-injur myself doing day to day tasks; like washing dishes, which is what caused the flare up last Friday night. Continue reading
Hike 08: Appalachian Trail – Delaware Water Gap to AMC Mohican Outdoor Center
My brother in law texted me a few weeks ago to see if I was free to go for a hike last Sunday. Chris normally works 7 days a week, so I jumped at the chance for some bro-bonding in the woods, as well as, some company on hike eight of my 52 Hike Challenge! Continue reading
Hike 07: Appalachian Trail, Mount Minsi Summit
I’ve seen Mount Minsi many times while hiking to the summit of Mount Tammany on the NJ side of the Delaware Water Gap, but had never explored the other side of the border. I decided to summit Mount Minsi via the Appalachian Trail for hike seven of my 52 hike Challenge. It was barely 10° outside when I parked in the Lake Lenape parking lot. It was about 10am, and I had the lot to myself. As it turned out, I would have the trail to myself as well. Continue reading
Holy Kahtoola! A MICROspike Review
It only took three and a half miles in my new MICROspikes to become completely transformed into a mountain goat! Seriously, I felt like some kind of super hero with these things on my feet. Continue reading
