I had been trying to determine if trekking poles were something that I needed to spend money on for some time. Not knowing if I would actually benefit from the use of a set, they were never really high on my gear wish list.

The gear shed is all about gear; it’s where I get to talk about bags and shoes.
Motorola Talkabout T600 H20: review
I have a lot of fond childhood memories that include some form of radio play – the yellow aviator headsets that my siblings and I used to speculate Christmas morning before my parents woke up, the science kit that allowed us to talk through an AM channel on the alarm clock, and practicing Morse Code on the indestructible Fisher Price Skytalkers. The Motorola Talkabout T600 H20 two way radios are sure to play a role in memorable adventures to come; plus they came in my favorite color, green. Continue reading
A piece of Treasure-like Trail Trash wrecked my bladder and now I have a Platypus
I was nearly complete with Hike 21 of my 52 Hike Challenge, hiking along the ridge in Jenny Jump State Park, when I saw something shiny in the rocks along the side of the trail. Continue reading
Olympia RG850 LED Flashlight Review
I was pretty surprised when I opened the package and saw just how much was included with Olympia’s RG850 CREE XM-L2 LED flashlight. Vasque Breeze 2.0 GTX Hiking Boot: Gear Review
I wore my last pair of Vasque hiking boots for five years before they got to a point where they needed to be replaced. They were perfect from day one through day 1,825 (or so). When I headed into REI to look at new boots, I naturally picked out a pair of the Breeze 2.0 GTX hikers. I can happily say that I’m very satisfied with the performance of the new Vasques after about 20 miles of mixed hiking – despite getting off to a rocky start (I’m not talking about the terrain). How a GoPro put me back in touch with nature
Most of the pictures I’ve taken on While adventuring were taken with a Kodak Advantix (remember those?), a Cannon Power Shot (10mp point and shoot), or one of my various iPhones (3GS, 4S, and 6). When I purchased my GoPro Hero 3+ last year I knew it would change the way I documented my adventures, but I never expected it to change the way I experienced my adventures Continue reading
