A few years ago I lived in an attic apartment in Montclair, NJ. I loved being within walking distance to many awesome bars, restaurants, and the music venues – but I was also a quick 5 minutes drive from Eagle Rock Reservation. I decided to head back to my old stomping grounds for hike 42! Continue reading

Hike 40:Great Falls Park, Virginia
Hike 40 was my first hike in Virginia, not only for the 52 Hike Challenge, but my first Virginia hike ever. There is certainly a lot more to explore in the state, but I was glad to spend the day with my wife, sister, brother in law, and my newest nephew in such a beautiful place. Continue reading
Hike 39: Griggstown Native Grassland Preserve
I’m quickly running out of days where I have enough light to hike after getting home from work – so I headed to the Griggstown Native Grassland Preserve for a sunset hike through the preserve. Continue reading
Hike 38: Jockey Hollow | Morristown National Historic Park
Hike 38 was my second time in the Jockey Hollow section of the Morristown National Historic Park – my goal was to revisit my favorite parts of the park from last summer’s hike, and to explore more of the east side of the area. Continue reading
Hike 37: Negri-Nepote Native Grassland Preserve
Summer was fading quickly; and still being a few hikes behind schedule meant taking advantage of what dwindling daylight I had left once I got home from work. I didn’t pick the Negri-Nepote Native Grassland Preserve based on any grand attraction, but because an open grassland would allow me a little more time than if I tried to rush a two mile hike in the woods before dusk. The hike, as it turned out, was a bit more exciting than I had imagined. Continue reading
Hike 36: Hike and Bike at Duke Farms
For hike 36 my wife and I headed to the Duke Farms Historic Estate in Hillsborough, NJ. If you live in the area you should definitely spend a day exploring this unreal piece of property by foot or by bike – they’ve got a sweet Farmer’s Market on Thursday nights too! Continue reading
Hike 35: Washington Valley Park East
Washington Valley Park is one of Somerset County’s larger recreational parks – hike 35 was my second time hiking in the park since starting my 52 Hike Challenge in November. Continue reading
Hike 34: Mount Tammany Summit
Mount Tammany’s red-dot trail is one of the quintessential New Jersey hikes – I’m not sure you can even call yourself an avid NJ hiker if you don’t make your way to Tammany’s summit annually. Hike 34 was my third time climbing to the top of the water gap and as always, it seemed steeper than last year’s hike. Continue reading
Hike 33: Bunker Hill Natural Area
I was talking up hike 33 to Mojo for a few days – we were both excited about spending some quality outdoor time together to celebrate his three year adoptiversary! I got home from work – packed some water and treats and double checked the web for a map of the area I was planning on taking Mojo. To my dismay – dogs are not allowed at this particular park so I needed a quick plan B – I went to my notebook, did a quick google search and we were on our way. Continue reading
