52 Hike Challenge: Accepted

I like making lists. Some are just lists for list’s sake, but others are full of goals or ideas that I really want to see through. My 30 for 30 was a great list, but as I pass my 32nd birthday; it’s only about half done. I decided to try something a little different this year: complete the 52 Hike Challenge! (52 hikes in 52 weeks) Continue reading

Hiking Mount Willard – Crawford Notch State Park, NH

I’m still on a bit of a high from my recent trip to New Hampshire.  The highlight of the trip for me was hiking to the summit of Mt. Willard.  It’s not the tallest mountain in the Whites, and it’s not even one of the coveted 4,000 footers, but Willard is by far the best bang for your buck hike I’ve done in years. Continue reading

Norvin Green State Forest: Otter Hole to Carris Hill Hike

I was pumped. The Otter Hole to Carris Hill loop was one of my favorite hikes from last summer, and despite the blistering heat, I was excited for the challenges ahead! The 4 mile hike takes you past creeks, rock slab summits, waterfalls, rock scrambles, and dense forest. The difficulty and beauty of the Norvin Green State Forrest captured a piece of my heart last summer, which is why I couldn’t wait to get back here. Continue reading

Jockey Hollow Hike – Morristown National Historical Park

Warm weather hiking on Mount Tammany – NJ

I spent most of the winter exploring the Sourland Mountain Preserve (a local park that has become my unofficial training ground).  I love that I have a cool spot so close to home, but felt like I needed a challenging hike to officially open warm weather adventuring season. I thought about the day hikes I most enjoyed last summer and decided to hit the Mt. Tammany loop in Worthington State Forrest – part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.  Continue reading

Watch Out for the Hound Fish: kayaking in the keys

I recently wrote about my Flying Floridian Fiascos – which included my experiences flying home from my honeymoon in Key West.  I got to thinking about that trip and how I had originally thought of Key West as too touristy for me – but after many months of wedding planning, it was great to just relax a bit, and not have to worry about what would happen if we drank the water.  One of the major highlights of the trip was our sunset kayaking excursion with Blue Planet Kayak.
