I like making lists. Some are just lists for list’s sake, but others are full of goals or ideas that I really want to see through. My 30 for 30 was a great list, but as I pass my 32nd birthday; it’s only about half done. I decided to try something a little different this year: complete the 52 Hike Challenge! (52 hikes in 52 weeks)
The 52 hike challenge was created with a simple premise: complete 52 hikes in one year’s time or less. The whole idea is to make you accountable for spending more time outside; I hiked a lot this past year, but it’s time to step it up a notch and start exploring more. I’m hoping the Challenge will push me to do just that.
One thing I’ve noticed is that I don’t plan my weekend day hikes enough in advance. When I get the urge to hike I end up at the same local spots that I’ve hiked dozens of times before. So, I started a list: My Potential Hike List. This list of hikes will give me something to draw from when planning each week’s adventure. Locations span from New York to Virginia with varied terrain and difficulty. I love my local spots (and am super greatfull to have trails literally only a few miles from my house) so they’re all on the list too.
I officially started on Black Friday as part of REI’s initiative to Opt Outside. I’ll be posting updates every couple of hikes so keep an eye out for the first few very soon!
