Moparized Renegades heading to Detroit

FCA US LLC (as they are now officially known) released images of two modified Jeep Renegades ahead of their Detroit reveals this week. The two Jeeps are a bit heavy on the decals, but the modified Trailhawk shows some promise for the future of the little Jeep.
2015/01/img_6142-0.jpgThe Off-road Mopar-equipped Jeep Renegade, as they’re calling it, features a Mopar roof basket mounted to the factory side rails, concept skid plates and prototype rock rails. Whether you love, or hate, the new Renegade, I think we can all agree that that is a pretty sweet roof basket. Much better than the one on the Cherokee concepts with the super sized fairing. I’m really curious to know what tires will be on this Renegade at the show as well. The pre production Trailhawk at the NY auto show last year had a set of 215/65/R17 tires on it. Which is a very hard size to find aggressive tires in, as anyone with a Patriot or Compass is already aware. The tire in the rendering looks a bit beefy so we’ll have to wait and see.

2015/01/img_6141.jpg There is still no official word on the lift-ability of the Renegade – Hopefully we’ll see a Trailhawk on (at least) 31 inch mud tires at the Moab Easter Jeep Safari this spring.

Pricing and availability for North American markets is still undisclosed, but I’m assuming the Renegade Trailhwak will be priced in the $25,000 – $27,000 range since the Cherokee Trailhawk still starts under $30K. More info as I get it. Let me know what you think in the comments.

So sad to report that the actual roof basket is the same one we saw on the Cherokee (with the huge fairing) – and not to my surprise, it looks like the concept has Goodyear SRA tires on it (the same that come on the Patriot and Compass.)
