Jeep recently announced what could possibly be the final year of the JK Wrangler. To no ones surprise, there aren’t any major updates for the 2016s with the next generation Wrangler on the horizon – due as a 2017 or 2018 model. Continue reading
OtterUnboxing – a Catalyst Case Review
Norvin Green State Forest: Otter Hole to Carris Hill Hike
I was pumped. The Otter Hole to Carris Hill loop was one of my favorite hikes from last summer, and despite the blistering heat, I was excited for the challenges ahead! The 4 mile hike takes you past creeks, rock slab summits, waterfalls, rock scrambles, and dense forest. The difficulty and beauty of the Norvin Green State Forrest captured a piece of my heart last summer, which is why I couldn’t wait to get back here. Continue reading
High Point State Park | Hiking the Appalachian and Monument trails
Hiking High Point in the rain! I was set for a great day of gear testing on an awesomely muddy trail to the highest elevation in NJ. When I got to the trail head I saw a text from my wife that said “call me.” Continue reading
UV Buff® Insect Shield®: gear review
I picked up a UV Buff® Insect Shield® a few months back to test the adventure-ability of the head garment (and because I wanted to be like all of the cool outdoorsy folks on Instagram who wear them.) Here’s what I think so far. Continue reading
Jockey Hollow Hike – Morristown National Historical Park
Many people are unaware of the amount of Revolutionary War history that exists in New Jersey. George Washington actually spent more time in the state than any other during our country’s battle for freedom. Some historic sights are identified by roadside markers or large stone monuments, while others have been preserved as part of the National Park System – in 1933 Morristown became the country’s first National Historical Park; protecting the site used as a winter came for Washington and his troops. Continue reading
Adventure Commuter Vehicles
As the last few body on frame SUVs hold on for dear life, we must embrace the fact that we’re going to need different ways of classifying utility vehicles – the lines between SUVs, crossovers, wagons, hatchbacks and even vans have forever been blurred.
Vasque Breeze 2.0 GTX Hiking Boot: Gear Review
I wore my last pair of Vasque hiking boots for five years before they got to a point where they needed to be replaced. They were perfect from day one through day 1,825 (or so). When I headed into REI to look at new boots, I naturally picked out a pair of the Breeze 2.0 GTX hikers. I can happily say that I’m very satisfied with the performance of the new Vasques after about 20 miles of mixed hiking – despite getting off to a rocky start (I’m not talking about the terrain). Continue reading
Sierra Blue Jeep Renegade sighting!
I’m digging the blue renegade – just wish it was a trail hawk. Sierra Blue is very similar to Wrangler’s Hydro Blue in person. Continue reading
Warm weather hiking on Mount Tammany – NJ
I spent most of the winter exploring the Sourland Mountain Preserve (a local park that has become my unofficial training ground). I love that I have a cool spot so close to home, but felt like I needed a challenging hike to officially open warm weather adventuring season. I thought about the day hikes I most enjoyed last summer and decided to hit the Mt. Tammany loop in Worthington State Forrest – part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Continue reading
