2019 Jeep Renegade gets new turbo, less pedals, improved crawl ratio

For 2019, the Jeep Renegade will retain the 2.4L 4 cylinder as it’s base engine, and gain a more powerful, smaller displacement, 1.3L turbo 4 as the premium engine option. The 9 speed automatic is now the only transmission available on all trim levels, and the Trailhawk now has a 21:1 crawl ratio.

Despite the lack of a third pedal, the trailhawk has always only been available with an automatic transmission, which is the only trim I’d consider buying; it’s sad to see more manuals going away, but with the advancements of automatics, I’m not surprised.

There are minor refreshes to the front and rear facias for the 2019 Renegade, new optional LED lighting group, and new wheel options for the Trailhawk and Limited models.

The main takeaway for the 2019 Renegade is the 1.3L Turbo, which is now standard on Trailhawk and Limited Trims – the new engine is rated at 177HP and 200 lb.-ft. of torque (compared to the 2.4L at 180HP and 177 lb.-ft. of torque). The 1.3L Turbo is optional on lower trim Renegades for 2019, the 2.4L is standard, the 1.4L Turbo is no longer offered. Jeep is also advertising an improved crawl ratio for the trailhawk of 21:1, up from 20:1 from last year’s Trailhawk. The improved crawl ratio is due to a deeper axle ratio, the improved efficiency of the 1.3L turbo is likely what allowed them to go deeper in the differentials without sacrificing daily driving.The interior of the 2019 Renegade looks very similar to the outgoing model, save maybe for more red accents in the Traikhawk.Overall, I like the Trailhawk Renegades and, if they weren’t considerably smaller inside, may have traded the Patriot for one.
