Are you pick up truck what I’m putting down? Wrangler based pickup truck confirmed?!

Sergio Marchionne confirmed yesterday that a Wrangler Pickup truck is indeed in the works. We’ve heard the boss man make comments like this before, but the confirmation via FCA’s social accounts gives it a bit more credibility than before. Jeep has been teasing us for years with awesome one offs, and with the actual thing reportedly debuting by the end of 2017; let’s recap the recent concepts.

The 2012 Easter Jeep Safari J12 is by far my favorite of the concepts. Despite the fact that the new Wrangler based pickup is likely to be more Scrambler than Honcho; a modern day Levi’s interior would be sweet.

Jeep J-12 ConceptI can pretty much guarantee that the new pickup will not look like the Mighty FC concept from 2012, but I would still love to build a kick ass camper rig out of these beasts.

The JK-8 isn’t a concept truck, but a Mopar kit that you can buy today to turn any 2007-2016 into a regular cab short bed truck; however, dealerships like to up-charge about $20K for the $5K kit making them extremely unpractical.

Last year’s Red Rock Responder was a stretched 4 door JK with a non-traditional pickup truck type utility bed. Not my favorite, but a cool rig none the less.

We’ve got at least a year before we even get an idea what the production vehicle will look like, but I’m hoping for a J12 inspired vehicle.
