the 2013 Rubicon of all Rubicons

Despite the lack of a 25th Anniversary Wrangler, Jeep recently announced the 10th Anniversary Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Limited Edition for 2013.  Jeep decided to honor the king of the trail by taking the most off-road-able production vehicle available today, and making it even more… off-road-able.

mounting Jumbo in Juneau

I’ve been thinking a lot about my 2009 trip to Alaska recently.  That trip involved a lot of firsts.  In addition to being my first time traveling solo, my first time sleeping in a hostel, my first time kayaking in a glacier lake, and my first time west of the state of Kansas; my trip to Alaska was the first time, and currently the only time, that I had the opportunity to summit a mountain.  On my final full day in Juneau, my sister and I climbed more than 3,000 feet to the peak of Mount Bradley Jumbo.

Wrangler Rock Lobster Revealed in Paris

Jeep recently showed off the new Moab Edition Wrangler at the Paris Auto Show.  It was also the first sighting of one of the new Wrangler colors for 2013, Rock Lobster.  The pictures of Jeep’s new colors always look a bit different in person, but I hope this reddish-orange is close to the real deal.

the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Moab is not a Rubicon

Following a plethora of special edition Wranglers for 2012 – The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the Arctic Edition, Altitude Edition, and the barely mentioned Freedom Edition – Jeep is kicking off 2013 with yet another limited edition JK. The 2013 Jeep Wrangler Moab edition is based on the Sahara model, and shares features of many of the special editions we saw last year.

Patriot Backpack – the little Jeep gets a roof rack

The spring time brings a lot of great things.  Greener trees, blossoming flowers, warm weather, topless Jeeps, and of course… the REI annual member dividend.  Last year, I wrote about the Half Dome tent that I purchased with my yearly bonus from my favorite adventure equipment store – this year, the new Patriot got a complete roof rack system and a rack for the bike.
