The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL confirmed many speculations about the newest universal Jeep. Most interestingly is the survival of the Rubicon model amongst the 2 door Wrangler while the Sahara (a model that preceded it) is now relinquished to the 4 door only. All Wrangler models remain body on frame construction with removable doors and roofs, and a foldable windshield. Rubicon in both door quantities will remain available with color match fenders (now half colored half black) and a color match hardtop.
The 2018 JL Rubicon now has a crawl ratio of 84.2:1 with the standard six speed manual transmission, and 77.2:1 on Rubicon models equipped with the new eight-speed automatic transmission. Sway bar disconnect and locking differentials remain on all Rubicon models. The all new bestop soft top eliminated all zippers and can now keep the top in place without the side or back windows, providing yet another open air option for Wrangler.
The improved u-connect center screen now has a series of Off Road Pages which includes various gauges and inclomiters. Below the large screen are Grand Cherokee-esk climate controls, newly relocated sway bar and locker controls, and once-seen-on-RAM trucks; prewired auxiliary switches.

All-new 2018 Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon
Coming in the second quarter of 2018 will be a third top option in addition to the soft top or hardtops currently available; a Sky One-Touch powertop, similar to Sky-Slider found on the KK Liberty. I’m not sure if this top is also removable like a full hard top, but we’ll find out soon enough. One thing that was speculated that I haven’t heard confirmed is the pre-wired CB radio option, maybe it was overlooked, or maybe they decided to omit it.
Sahara, now a four door only model gets an all new two-speed transfer case with full-time four-wheel drive and a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. Sahara maintains its painted fender flares and optional color hard top.
Despite having an all wheel drive transfer case and being an unlimited only, Sahara is still a Wrangler with removal doors, top and a foldable windshield. I’ll be keeping an eye out to spot all of the new JL colors as soon as they hit local dealers.
